COOL Plan Description
Garlinghouse Vacation Cabin House Plan 20002 with 728 Sq Ft, 2 Bedrooms, Wood Stove, Huge Deck and Weekend Getaway Appeal
From the Garlinghouse Collection comes a stellar little reminder that you don't need a giant house to create a great escape. House Plan 20002 packs 2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, a wood stove, and a whopping 376-square-foot deck into just 728 square feet of finished living space. With a compact 26-foot by 28-foot footprint, this timeless Vacation Cabin is ready for the woods, mountains, lakefront, fishing property, hunting land, or just about anywhere you'd rather be when Friday afternoon rolls around.
The exterior keeps the architecture appropriately simple and rustic. This is a cabin designed to settle into the landscape rather than overpower it. Tuck it between mature trees, place it near a mountain stream, or give it a view across the lake. Its compact footprint can leave more of your property open for trails, outdoor recreation, scenery, and all the reasons you wanted a getaway in the first place.
Then there's that deck. At 376 square feet, the outdoor living area measures more than half the size of the heated cabin. That's serious room for a grill, dining table, lounge chairs, and friends who suddenly become much more interested in visiting once they find out you own a cabin. It's a choice setup for coffee at sunrise, dinner after a day on the lake, or simply doing absolutely nothing while surrounded by trees.
When the weather turns cold, head inside and fire up the wood stove. It creates the warm centerpiece every rustic getaway deserves, and there's even a convenient firewood storage bin on the deck. Double doors connect the large living room directly to the outdoor space, giving the cabin a strong indoor-outdoor relationship during warmer months while creating a cozy retreat when winter arrives.
The kitchen has everything needed for genuine cabin duty without wasting valuable square footage. Ample cabinets and counters provide useful storage and preparation space, while a double sink, room for a 32-inch refrigerator, and a 30-inch oven and range make it easy to prepare anything from a quick breakfast before fishing to a big dinner after hiking.
Two generously sized bedrooms provide comfortable sleeping accommodations for family and friends, with one full bathroom serving the cabin. A dedicated mechanical room keeps the furnace and water heater organized, while crawlspace and slab foundation options provide flexibility for different building sites.
There's no garage attached, which means you can choose exactly the detached garage or storage building your adventures require. Explore our Garage Plans and save 10% when purchasing a house plan and garage plan together.
House Plan 20002 comes from more than a century of Garlinghouse American home design. Founded by L.F. Garlinghouse in Topeka, Kansas, the company created homes around the way generations of Americans actually wanted to live. This enduring little cabin proves the formula still works: keep the footprint efficient, make the outdoors part of the experience, put a fire in the living room, and give people a place they'll look forward to escaping to year after year.

Exterior Elevations Scaled drawings of the front, rear, sides of the home. Information pertaining to the exterior finish materials, roof pitches and exterior height dimensions.
Typical Wall Section This section will address insulation, roof components, and interior and exterior wall finishes. Your plans will be designed with either 2x4 or 2x6 exterior walls, but most professional contractors can easily adapt the plans to the wall thickness you require.
Fireplace Details If the home you have chosen includes a fireplace, the fireplace detail will show typical methods to construct the firebox, hearth and flue chase for masonry units, or a wood frame chase for a zero-clearance unit. Available for most plans.
Foundation Plan These plans will accurately dimension the footprint of your home including load bearing points and beam placement if applicable. The foundation style will vary from plan to plan.
Roof Plan The information necessary to construct the roof will be included with your home plans. Some plans will reference roof trusses, while many others contain schematic framing plans. These framing plans will indicate the lumber sizes necessary for the rafters and ridgeboards based on the designated roof loads.
Typical Cross Section A cut-away cross-section through the entire home shows your building contractor the exact correlation of construction components at all levels of the house. It will help to clarify the load bearing points from the roof all the way down to the basement. Available for most plans.
Detailed Floor Plans The floor plans of your home accurately dimension the positioning of all walls, doors, windows, stairs and permanent fixtures. They will show you the relationship and dimensions of rooms, closets and traffic patterns. The schematic of the electrical layout may be included in the plan.
Stair Details If stairs are an element of the design you have chosen, the plans will show the necessary information to build these, either through a stair cross section, or on the floor plans.
